I was stuck until I found the playlist, and then the song had to be dethroned—just like that. Modern technology is phenomenal. Just as I was about to write that the other song might still hold a place in my heart, the current one touched me deeply.
It peaked in a way that matched my mood. It’s hopeful, as if that’s going to change anything, but who really knows? No one does, except perhaps those who can see and shape all possible futures. But that seems to happen only in comic books. Though, in a self-fulfilling way, you could manifest it yourself.
What is the future? I think a future for a person is the journey they believe they’re on. As you pursue this journey, things happen. You’re in control to the extent that you allow yourself to be. For me, it has been events in my life that couldn’t be predicted, mostly decided by some obscure childlike plan I had put together, which eventually led me here. Now I’m pursuing other parts of my life—parts I didn’t know I wanted as a child, but now, as an adult, I do. I’m grateful that my childlike plans brought me to this point.
The most recent part I was chasing was something I didn’t even know I wanted. It all started with a shirt. I roll my eyes as I write that. It’s as if that shirt was the missing link for me. To everyone else, it seemed obvious: Why would she have a Las Vegas shirt? The same reason I wanted to get her another one, though I couldn't do that anymore.
